Onion rings, bacon, and cheese - oh my! These Western Bacon Burgers are piled high with all of the above and drizzled with barbecue sauce for a burger with unbeatable flavor in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 LB Ground Chuck
  • 3 Hamburger Buns
  • 3 Slice Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 Onion, large
  • 1/2 Cup Flour
  • 1/2 Tsp Salt
  • 1/4 Tsp Pepper
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 Cup Beer
  • 2 Cup Panko Breadcrumbs
  • 6 Slice Bacon (cooked)

Directions

  1. Fire up your Pit Boss pellet grill to SMOKE and let it run with lid open for 10 minutes then preheat to 400°F and open the sear slide. If using a gas or charcoal grill, preheat to medium/high heat.
  2. Preheat the air fryer or deep fryer to 400°F.
  3. Make the beer batter by combining the flour, salt and pepper. Then whisk in the beer and egg. The mixture should be thick and will stick to the onions well.
  4. Slice the onion into ¾ slices and separate the individual rings.
  5. Put the panko into a shallow bowl and start breading the onion rings.
  6. Place the onion ring in the beer batter and turn to coat well.
  7. Then toss in the panko until well covered.
  8. Place the breaded onions in the air-fryer for 11-14 minutes. Set aside for building the burgers.
  9. Portion the meat into 3 and make the patties. Season generously with Chophouse Steak Rub and place on the smoker above the sear slide. Grill until desired doneness.
  10. When you remove the burgers from the grill, immediately top with cheese.
  11. Build the burgers from the bottom up starting with the burger patty, topped with onion rings and a drizzle of Kentucky Whiskey Barrel BBQ Sauce.
